Why It's So Hard to Trust Ourselves (and What That Has to Do With Spirit Guides)
The disconnection isn’t your fault—and rebuilding trust is possible.
For most of us, the idea of having spirit guides—or any kind of relationship with unseen support—can feel far-fetched, even if part of us is drawn to it. We might wonder if it’s “real,” if we’re making it up, or if it’s just wishful thinking.
But what if the real issue isn’t whether or not these connections exist? What if the problem is that we’ve been taught not to trust ourselves?
We’ve Been Conditioned to Ignore Our Inner Knowing
From a young age, many of us learned that logic was more valuable than instinct. That being productive was more important than being present. That external authority figures knew better than we did.
Over time, this trained us to override what we feel and sense. It became normal to second-guess ourselves, to shut down intuitive nudges, to explain away gut feelings or moments of clarity.
This is especially true for those of us raised in systems that marginalized emotion, sensitivity, or spiritual connection—whether that’s through culture, religion, gender socialization, or trauma.
So when we feel the presence of something greater… or have a moment that feels like guidance… we often dismiss it.
Not because we’re broken. Because we’ve been trained not to trust ourselves.
The Unseen is Subtle—And That Makes It Easy to Miss
In my work, I use the word “Unseen” to describe the realm of intuitive, spiritual, and ancestral support that surrounds us. It’s not something you can see or measure in a conventional way. It communicates through sensation, “imagination”, a knowing that can’t site its sources, and felt experience.
But if your nervous system is stuck in survival mode, or you’ve had to shut down your emotions to get through the day, it can be really hard to access these more subtle cues.
That doesn’t mean the support isn’t there. It means we may not be resourced enough to notice it, or to have access to it.
Rebuilding Trust is a Process, Not a Quick Fix
The ability to connect with your spirit guides isn’t some magical gift reserved for a few people. It’s a skill that can be nurtured over time—especially when approached through a grounded, body-based, relational lens.
That’s what my self-paced course, Connecting With Your Spirit Guides, is designed to support.
In the powerful, energized container, we explore:
What spirit guides actually are (and how to understand them in your own terms)
How to create simple practices that help you feel more connected
Why nervous system regulation is key to intuition
How to notice, interpret, and respond to subtle guidance
What to do when doubt shows up (because it will)
My intention is to offer tools that help folks feel more rooted in their bodies, more connected to their own sense of knowing, and more supported in life—especially when things feel uncertain.
If You’ve Felt a Pull Toward This Kind of Work…
You’re not alone. And you’re not imagining it.
We all have the capacity to remember this connection, through small, steady acts of attention, care and practice.
And even if you don’t take the course, I hope this reminds you: Your intuition is real. Reconnection is possible. Trusting yourself is an act of revolution.
